I'm Baking With Delight!

I’m not too adventurous with my bread. Usually I just pick up the same loaf over and over, or I bake some that is similar. White bread. It bores the shit out of me actually, but it’s all Mr Black will eat.
I dream of a time where I can pick up a different type at least once a week, but alas, fussy eaters who make the money to buy the food like to put a spanner in my works.

On the rare occasion I go all rogue on his ass and grab a multigrain bread. Yep, the seed bread. I love that stuff, fresh and smeared with vegemite and butter. Yummmm.
Sometimes the kids and I grab some raisin toast because that stuff too is teh bomb, and actually has me excited for breakfast….Ok I eat it for lunch too.

So when Bakers Delight asked if they could send me a couple of loaves of their new bread to try out I was all “SCORE! Mr Black can’t complain about it if it’s FREE.”
Actually I am going to outstand you all and say that the Hi-Fibre, Low GI Bread went down without any complaints from Mr Black. He actually asked me where I got it from. It looks like white bread, so I guess he just thought it was. I’m not about to burst his bubble.

I was also sent a Chia loaf, and my gosh, this is my new favourite bread. This stuff is making me drool just thinking about it.
The kids? They loved both. My kids, they’re pretty ok with food, there are things they won’t eat, things they can’t eat (be damned eggs), but they’re pretty easy going when it comes to foods and love healthy stuff. I only let them have one slice of the Chia each because that was mine, all mine *insert evil laughter here*, but there were no complaints, as was the case with the Hi-Fibre, Low GI Bread.

I got to quickly thinking of ways I can help to maximise the benefits of this mass healthy bread and after a poke around in our veggie garden, and a quick trip to the green grocers for some things we aren’t currently growing I set to making a mass amount of lunches.
I’m not sure exactly how many sandwiches I made, with various different fillings, but 3 weeks later and we just packed the last sandwich off today with Bluey, who has said they’re all delicious, and had his friends ooh’ing and ahh’ing over the different fillings.

School lunches. I am about simplicity, something nutritional, but easy so I can sleep longer in the morning. So when Kate, from Kate Says Stuff blogged about her tip of making school lunches ahead of time and freezing them I sat there thinking ‘How did I not already think of this?’
Do it. Then marvel at your intelligence. All you have to do is pull it out and pop it in the fridge the night before. This means I can have his lunchbox packed the night before. Win!

Bluey says his favourite was the avocado, cream cheese and alfalfa on the Chia loaf. Told you my kids are weird.
One of our creations.

  1. I tried the Bakers Delight Chia roll last week. It was so good! My all-time fave sandwich filling is vegemite, tomato and cheese, with lots of butter!  Sometimes  I throw in avocado, just for additional yummyness. This is awesome toasted too!

  6. I'm lucky my whole family eat multi-grain bread. The kids haven't had any other option as it's all I buy - I acutally buy the country grain from Bakers Delight!  Yummy.
I'm a sucker for the good old chicken, avocado, tomato, lettuce and carrot sandwich.  I think avocado makes anything exciting!

  7. If you have never had peanut butter, honey & cheese you must. It's such a delicious treat on fresh bread. Treat being the operative word there.

  8. I love Cheese, Avocado, Tomato, Lettuce, Red Onion, Salsa and Mayonnaise - then if we get the time - toasted! So very naughty for the hips but so yummy!
We used to make up bulk sandwiches and freeze them - such a great time saver.

  14. I completely understand this Merryl, it is something I am concious of also.
I am seeing your email address come up as some letters and numbers then followed by themummyautobiography at yahoo. Could you please check what you are entering?

In my T&C's I stated that it was ok to not leave your email address so long as you linked back to your blog, or elsewhere where I could find a way to contact you directly. Sorry to do it this way but I have had trouble with winners contacting me in the past so I prefer to be able to contact them directly by email as it seems many people don't come back and check the blog to see if they've won.
