Hair and Maintenance.

So most of you would know what my hair looks like. If not let me remind you...

I quite like it, obviously, but it's quite high maintenance.
Firstly, there is the regrowth which needs to be bleached up and then dyed at least every six weeks.
The bleaching takes at least an hour, then a toner (aka colour) is thrown on for 10minutes or so.

When I get my hair done we only ever bleach the roots. This helps to minimise the damage to all of my hair. So instead of drying out all of my hair over and over again causing quite a lot of damage we are causing minimal damage. My hairdresser assures me that my hair is actually quite healthy even with the amount of colouring it takes because we are only ever bleaching the roots.

The colour fades out quite quickly. Actually, for fudge hair dye it does last quite a while, but it generally needs to be done along with my regrowth. While it does fade in those six weeks I am lucky that it fades to a lovely pastel shade that I quite like. But it's nothing like the vibrant colours that shine after being freshly dyed.

Then there's the fringe. It's a new addition to my hair and while I love it, I haven't quite gotten the knack for styling it.
also, yep, you guessed it, being a longer fringe it needs to be cut quite regularly as it doesn't take long for it to be in my eyes.

All of this means, as I said, I am getting my hair done at least every six weeks. I am also growing my hair. My hairdresser has advised that you don't necessarily need a trim every six weeks of your ends as long as they are maintained. We play this part be ear. If there are no split ends we leave it, otherwise we do a tidy up.

How often do you visit with your hairdresser?
Is your hair high maintenance?
Any tips for someone wanting to help their hair to grow faster?

  1. I *adore* your hair! I think the fringe really suits you, keep it! How do you do such beautiful soft curls?

I am at my wits end with my hair right now : the jet black colour is growing out nicely, but I'm left with the unintentional ombre look! Am thinking of cutting it short, just so the black is gone a whole lot faster! x

  2. Naw I love it. I love the rainbow tips. Too cute!

I get foils every six months. That's about it. I have started using better shampoo and conditioner though and viola it's much better, less frizzle and like how it was when I was a teen. I will be using it FOREVER!

  3. Thank you.
I just did tight curls with a curling iron, gave them a light spritz of hairspray and brushed them out. I ended up lopping off quite a few inches at the start of the year of dead and whispy ends. It made me really sad but felt good to know what I had left was all healthy.

  4. When I first went blonde I was just doing a full head of foils. I found the regrowth was less noticable because of all the different high and low lights but I still needed to get my colour done about every 6 weeks. Now with the scalp bleach I cannot leave it over the 6 week mark.

I have a post coming up next week which will talk about my hair care routine.

  6. It looks awesome!!  I'm certainly a low maintenance kinda gal. I think I last went to the hairdresser August last year!!  I do the odd home dye to cover the greys (which there are plenty of them!!).  I'm currently nearly 6 weeks into the "no poo" experiment where I'm not using shampoo but bicarb and apple cider vinegar...I don't think this will be long term for me though - I'm almost ready to give it up.

  7. My main 'hair objective' these days is to hide the sparkly bits (aka greys) for as long as possible... a battle which I fear I am loosing at a very rapid rate!  Maybe I should go Pink! ;-)

  8.  Is that the length of your natural hair? Without extensions? I'd love to get to a similar length but my hair doesn't grow as fast now that I'm not pregnant anymore!

  9. I heart your hair and the coloured tips@Penny
! The maintenance part scares me off from doing something like that.. but my hair is coloured now and I do go for touch-ups every 2 months or so.  I usually get a trim along with it because my hair is quite "thick". I prefer it very layered heh

Freaking hard to handle here. It is wooly and wild and I have to iron it within an inch of its life to get any semblance of normal.
    Yours, however, is fabulous.

  11. I am in desperate need; in fact this post has inspired me to make an appointment. I usually go about ever three months but haven't been since before DPCON. :/

  12. I was blonde once, for about a year, and I think I spent more time and money in the hairdressers that year than all the other years of  my life put together! Unfortunately (fortunately?) it really didn't suit me. Your hair is just divine and really looks good on you. Well worth the effort, I think.

  13. It would be great going to the hairdressers all the time. I don't do anything to my hair. Wish I could pull off the pink look.
